If you are curious about astrology, you likely already know your Sun sign. But if you have ever felt like you don’t perfectly fit the standard description of that sign, there is a beautiful, cosmic reason for that. Astrology is an ancient, profound method of examining exactly how we are uniquely aligned with the universe at the exact moment of our birth.
When you book an initial reading with me, we go far beyond the basics. Here is a look at what to expect as we translate your cosmic blueprint.
1. Day vs. Night: Finding Your Chart’s “Sect”
When I first gather your birth data, the very first thing I look at is whether you have a “Day Chart” or a “Night Chart” (known as your chart’s Sect).
While you might know you are an Aries Sun, every single Aries Sun could have any of the 12 zodiac signs as their Ascendant (Rising sign) or Moon sign! The Ascendant changes every two hours—it is only the same as your Sun sign if you were born exactly at sunrise. The Moon changes signs every two and a half days, making its placement unique to you.
Knowing your Sect immediately tells me which luminary (the Sun or the Moon) is the “team captain” of your chart, and which planets are positioned to be the most helpful or the most challenging for you.
2. The Traditional Seven
Before the invention of the telescope, ancient astrologers worked with the visible sky. While the outer planets (Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto) are important and add modern nuance, I first evaluate your horoscope based on the foundational energy of the seven traditional planets: The Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn.
Each of these planets has a “domicile” or a home sign that they rule. The Sun and Moon rule one sign each (Leo and Cancer, respectively), while the remaining five planets rule two signs apiece.
Just like us, planets have environments where they feel incredibly powerful and privileged (Exaltation), and environments where they feel highly uncomfortable or restricted (Detriment and Fall). For example, Jupiter feels stifled and detailed-obsessed in Gemini (Detriment), while Mars loses its fighting edge in the gentle sign of Cancer (Fall).

3. Cosmic Conversations & The Angles of Life
Planets don’t operate in a vacuum. I look at where they are in relation to each other, their synodic cycles with the Sun, and what direction they are moving.
Crucially, I look at how these planets interact with the most powerful angles of your chart: the AC-DC axis (the 1st and 7th houses of Self and Other) and the MC-IC axis (the 10th and 4th houses of Career/Public Life and Home/Roots). These angles act as lightning rods in a chart—they hold a massive amount of dynamic energy and often mark the most important turning points in your life.
4. The Chart Ruler: Your Cosmic Steersman
Finally, we will look at your Chart Ruler—the planet that rules your Ascendant. This planet acts as the “steersman” of your life’s ship, guiding your overall direction, physical vitality, and personal motivation. Understanding your steersman is the key to understanding your unique path.

- Your Written Report: You will receive a lengthy, deeply personalized written guide. I include a summary of where each planet is located in your chart and analyze how the signs they rule show up in your actual life. I provide examples of both the positive and negative expressions of these potential energies, along with a set of self-reflection questions for each planet to help you actively work with your placements.
- Our Live Session: We will meet face-to-face over Google Meet. During this time, I will walk you through 3 or 4 of the most major, impactful placements in your chart.
- The Recording: Our session will be recorded so you can relax, be present, and have the video as a lifelong reference guide as you read through your written report.
